Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), an agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry has developed new opportunities in automated and connected technologies.

In a statement today, MARii chief executive officer Datuk Madani Sahari said the technologies are not limited to only within the automotive sector, it can also be applied in other industries within the country.

“The most immediate technology available in MARii is the ImmuSAFE tracker, an intelligent contact tracing application - designed specifically for health management within industries operating during the pandemic.

“This application, driven by big data and Internet-of-Things (IoT) technologies, is ready for immediate deployment,” he said.

Madani said since the pandemic began, the institute has been involved in several health management initiatives by the government, including the development and maintenance of the Covid-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS).

“Henceforth, MARii is offering its expertise in the utilisation of technologies developed for the automotive sector, and supports the industry to resume its operations immediately in light of its essential contribution towards the national and regional economy.

“Initiatives implemented by the industry have allowed for increased productivity and exportability of the automotive sector, supported by a workforce of around 700,000,” he added.

In 2019, the automotive community exported RM13.1 billion worth of parts and components to regional markets, while in 2020, the sector exceeded the RM10 billion export figure (ending October 2020), a significant performance in light of the pandemic.

“However, the momentum will be significantly impacted with another halt to operations that have been adhering to strict standard operating procedures (SOP) in accordance with recommendations of the Health Ministry and the National Security Council,” he added.
